Compared to men, women have always received cheaper car insurance rates. Insurance companies rate men as more careless, hot-headed and impatient while driving, accounting for 85% of accident risk. Women are thought be to safer, more level-headed drivers and make up the remaining 15% of accident risk. Statistics do show that women tend to be safer drivers than men, however they are involved in just as many accidents. How, then, is car insurance so much cheaper for women?

Young men are also prone to neglecting seatbelts while driving; maybe they are "too cool" to wear a seatbelt? Statistically, men are more likely to drive while inebriated and under the influence of drugs; they are also more likely to drive with an expired or suspended license. Though it is an on-going debate, men tend to make more money than women and can therefore afford newer and faster cars.

One of the reasons why car insurance rates are cheaper for women is because women drivers used to be the minority; that is not the case anymore, so it really is just a matter of time before these cut rates are in the past. Married women are still taking advantage of the cheap car insurance because married men tend to become safer drivers, lowering their risk for an accident. There are even car insurance companies who handle only women drivers! With rates up to 30% less than other insurance companies, women would be better off doing the research to find companies that will give them the best quote.

Women drivers are receiving cheaper insurance rates, but there are factors that need to be considered with women, as well. For instance, teens are learning to drive and hitting the roads at younger ages, cutting the differences between males and females dramatically.
